Grambling Analysis: They’ve won 4 straight games
Even though their top 2 scorers had poor performances, the Tigers nonetheless prevailed in their first NCAA Tournament. Despite his season low of 10 points per game, Smith has scored 13 points or more in 6 of his past 8 games, including a game-winning 20 points for the team against Grambling.
Purdue Analysis: They just lost on a very close OT game
For the majority of the season, Purdue was ranked in the top 5 but they lost to Wisconsin in overtime in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals. The Boilermakers, who were 17-3 in the Big Ten during the regular season, come into this game with a 29-4 overall record. Purdue had an early 8-2 lead over Wisconsin but was even at the half. The rest of the game was close, with neither team taking the largest advantage until the end of regulation, when the scores were level at 66. With 46 seconds remaining in OT, Purdue had a three-point lead, but lost after giving up the final 4 points, including the game-winning jumper with 8 seconds left.
